The invitation to attend the Annual Open Day at St. Edwards School has been a pleasure that WP Group’s Business Development Manager Des Close has enjoyed over the last five years.
St Edwards is an independent Charitable Trust school which provides day placement and weekly boarding for boys who experience behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD). The day itself is well prepared and managed as the students actively display their work of Horticulture, Art, Painting & Decorating, Brickwork , Plumbing & Design Technology.
Des explains “the staff provide a warm and accommodating aura as they welcome you to their workplace. It starts from the top as headmaster Larry Bartel and his deputy head Phil Rogers greet you on your entrance and then the members of their talented team share their satisfaction of the progress made by the young men, aged between eleven and seventeen years.
“On display are many special project pursuits such as the historical focus on the Western Front and the Dark Ages, add to this the visual entertainment provided in many chosen hobbies such as motor cycling, mountain biking, kayaking and music to name just a few."
In the last year the school football team won the first ever engage National Football Challenge in Loughton, Essex and on an academic front has achieved their best ever return of GSCE results. On a charitable note, the school teamed up with The Kisoboka Trust to support the installation of a water and sanitation plant for school children at the Notre Dame Catholic School in Uganda.
At the end of the afternoon Larry Bartel provided a fitting overview of the school year and after explaining the recognition of a number of awards, duly presents them to the individual recipients. The visit is then completed as Larry wishes the boys and their families a safe homeward bound journey.
Des feels that the diverse activities at the school influences the boys' growth in confidence, team working skills, list of achievements and cultural awareness which, is without doubt, very special.
WP Group would like to wish St. Edwards School all the best in the future and hopes the pupils keep up the good work.
